Wine+Shoes: Oz

Dorothy’s Shoes: Take me away to the fascinating world of Oz.  A land of adventure , dreams and excitement. I’ve known these shoes for a lifetime finally saw the movie about a year ago. WOW! I’ve visited two locations known as the Land of Oz. One was illustrated in the Judy Garland version of the movie. But the first one was the creation in my own mind.  Imagine, a little girl taken from her home to a wonderful foreign land, where she discovers her path with some newly acquired friends. I know this girl.  We all know this girl in our own way.  Welcome home Dorothy Gale.

Michel-Schlumberger Winery:  Tornado: Is the best route to this winery.   Cars work too.  If you have the courage to take the most beautiful drive to arrive at a fantastical land, then it’s worth it!  Up up and away we go.  First we met our cast of characters, The Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow. Instead of Flying Monkeys there were Baby Doll Sheep.  The Wicked Witch had taken a Vacation for the Winter Olympics and in her place was a our lovely hostess Glinda.

Theme Parties, Cute Animals, Cast of characters, and a magical trip, this is the reason behind this pairing.

Sniff Sniff and away we go into the sense memory brought on by a flower. White floral arrangements sweep me away to white wedding montages of happy moments full of love.

Smells like Happy Wine:

Meet the Pragers, they make some of the most amazing wines in Napa, Port!  These specialized wines have attended many of my personal functions.  The Aria, a white port, has become part of our family.  Associating the potent smell of this wine with some of the happiest times of my life.  I will always remember the smell of this wine, which lingers in the bottle.

Today’s pairing is dedicated to the women who inspire me. Woman, who fill the Shoes of Expectation and have surpassed them. Today I dedicate this blog to Director Kathryn Bigelow and Winemaker Heidi Barrett.

Wine Shoes: Heidi Barrett, is a guiding light for women in the wine industry.   Responsible for some of California’s most notable wines like “Screaming Eagle” and “Revana“.  I hear references to other female winemakers saying: “She’s going to be the next Heidi Barrett”,  an Icon!

Talent is just the beginning of these women to say the least of their amazing products they have created. These achievements have opened doors in different walks of life. Paving the road for more of us woman to take up our heels and step out into the world.

But most of all I hope we don’t see them as just,

women breaking boundaries,

but instead as people achieving their dreams.

We deserve it as much as anyone else.

Just because Paul Giamatti says Merlot sucks doesn’t make it true!  Always stand up for what you believe in. Women, like Merlot, are amazing!  No one in the world can tell me otherwise.

These Red Polkadot Pumps make me think of kickin’ up my heels. With a sly smirk, I walk into a bar, uncensored and lookin’ for trouble. This flirty gal can go out after a long day and still have some fun! Naughty Anita is here and ready to play. Yee-Haw.

PEDICURES…. the sweet toes of the world come out to play, in all their glory. Toes painted in spunky, spicy, sultry, cocktail driven, romance inspired colors.

Splashes of fruit caress your tongue and now all you need is a steamy romance novel with a half-naked buff guy on the cover… short hair only (please).

Wine + Shoes: the beginning

I love taking photos of peoples shoes. Hi, my name is Anita and I have a shoe problem, the first step is admitting there is a  problem, right? I think shoes say a lot about a person. Personally, I alternate between my 2 favorite shoes.  I wear them down to the souls and then have to say a couple words  when I toss them into a trash can. It’s like saying goodbye to a bunny rabbit.

So… what does a crazy shoe fascination have to do with pairing wine… we’ll I’m not totally sure, but let’s take this journey together shall we.
